European Parliament
The European Union is formed 1 November 1993. It is union of states that help each other on economic and political field. Today EU has 28 member states. As every democratic system also EU has its own parliament that will vote for political and economic decisions.
The Parliament is consisted of representatives from the 28 member states. They work for 5 years, and after that, there is another election on which new people will be reelected to work for the parliament. When elected those member are divided in transnational groups not by nationality but according to their political ideology. One political group is consisted of at least 25 members of seven EU states. In EU parliament there are seven political groups.
European People Party, Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats In EUP, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, Greens European Free Alliance, European Conservatives and Reformists, European united Left/Nordic Green Left, Europe of Freedom and Democracy.
Every two and a half year new parliament president is elected which is responsible that all rules and regulations of the parliament are followed properly.
The Parliament has three important roles: legislative, budgetary and supervision and oversight.
EU parliament has a role of accepting, amending or rejecting proposed EU legislatures. There are several procedures which the parliament work and that is by consultation, cooperation and co-decision. Cooperation is mostly used to speed up the work, and with this procedure EU parliament is co-working with other EU institutions.
The parliament also has a budgetary role and together with Council Minister decides where the EU budget will be allocated and what is going to be used for.
Also EUP has oversight and supervision role over the activities of the Council of Ministers and can conduct public hearings and investigations and submit oral and written questions to the Commission and the Council if some of the EU policy is broken or misused.
