Graphic Design – Vinyl Records Jackets
Vinyl records were most popular somewhere in 1960’s and 1970’s, after that while audio cassette and compact disks were invented their popularity lowers. But still vinyl records are manufactured maybe in smaller amount than before because of the advancement made in technology. Also there is a raise in popularity and bigger demand of vinyl records somewhere in 2010.
For the good vinyl, the graphical design and look of the vinyl jacket is also important. So it could attract more customers and could raise the amounts of record sold and with that raise the budget of the production.
Even though firstly probably the vinyl jacket was used to protect the vinyl records of scratches and other damage that could destroy or brake the sound or the music that’s recorded on the vinyl record, certain musicians applied some of the graphical designing techniques that will improve the looks of the cover make it look more stylish, entertaining and fun for the listeners.
As the music became more visual, invention of music videos and everything else. Also the competition between more creative and interesting record jacket, cover started. And it became some basic standard that every vinyl record should have, a jacket that describes certain song or certain sound or lyrics that is recorded. But it doesn’t mean it should, the production or the people that are involved in creating the graphical design of the record could draw anything they wanted.
After some time the vinyl jackets improved even more, by adding more graphical design and texts, lyrics and symbolic that meant something. Maybe a signature or photos from the musical group that recorded the music or just one musician which wanted to make a mark on his/her work or just satisfy fans.
